No kitsch collectable has been more prevalent on the runway than the Victorian Staffordshire Dog. One of the many colourful characters to appear in the Gucci Resort 2017 collection, the move was dubbed by Vogue 'a decision grannies, pet lovers, watchers of Antiques Roadshow, and serious antique collectors could get behind.' The quaint figurines had previously been seen on the runway at Libertine (which later meant a public blasting by them of Gucci on their Instagram account).
It seems silly to think one fashion house has exclusives rights over the use of Victorian knick knacks and more and more independent designers are finding ways of producing their own ode to Staffordshire dog. Buried Diamond, the shop run by Brooklyn Etsy seller Martha Porter has just launched her own Staffordshire dog patches (which I am super keen to get my hands on). If you love dogs but have allergies, can't keep up with their exercise routine or hate barking, this might be the alternative for you.
